Project Highlight – Earthwork at Grey Hawk Park

The Setup

It’s not every day that the Colorado Springs Mayor kicks off your project.

Our team was honored to spearhead the earthwork for the Grey Hawk Park Earthwork project, which began with a memorable groundbreaking ceremony led by Mayor Yemi and surrounded by the eager community, and covered by the local news.

The Grey Hawk Park has been a dream in the making for approximately 10 years, as the community made plans for a new park and playground. After finalizing a contract with the City of Colorado Springs Park Department to handle all excavation of earthwork and grading, our team decided it was time to expedite the timeline and make the long-awaited dream a reality.

When we reflect on the project, a few things made this one exceptionally memorable:

  1. The Volume

Our team excavated and hauled out a total of 13,000 cubic yards of material in the first few weeks, then GPS finish graded the 2 acres in the following week.

No matter the task or volume at hand, our entire team upholds a standard of excellence. This is consistently displayed in each project with our transparent communication, timeliness, and pursuit of excellence down to the details.

  1. The Time

The team spent over 1,000 trucking hours to complete the project within a one month time frame. That’s over 50 truck hours per day!

Speaking of time, we were able to deliver an accelerated timeline request from the client. By creatively installing case-in-place manhole bases, this solution decreased our timeline and matched the requested changes. We consistently analyze all the details and search for solutions that deliver value to the projects.

  1. The Process

One of 633’s commitments is to focus on value and price. In this project, we utilized value engineering as a solution to save the client time and money.

Specifically, our team was able to creatively salvage and preserve some of the existing 36-inch RCP, and reuse it throughout the project. In total, our team laid 404 LF of 36-inch concrete pipe.

Existing RCP was carefully extracted and 95% preserved to add value to the project by saving the client tens of thousands in new materials and disposal fees.

Value engineering is a strategic way our team is able to reduce the overall price and timeline without compromising the quality, safety, and design of the project. This takes experience, a keen eye for details, and communication with the team and clients. We have a successful history of helping clients find unique solutions for their projects.

What sets us apart

This memorable project highlighted the team’s ability to be nimble and creative throughout the changes in the project and scheduling, prioritizing client service foremost.

Additionally, our committment to creative value engineeing provides cost savings to developers and municipalities. As residents of Colorado Springs, it’s in our best interested to support the budget and create more opportunity for development. By providing high value and high-quality construction, we are able to support the goals of the City and Community. 633 Construction is the best option for value engineering for civil construction and earthwork in Colorado Springs.

We believe in doing things the right way. Through strategic problem-solving and consistent communication, we completed another project while saving the client time and money in the process. After a 10-year planning timeframe, we substantially completed the project in a two-month turnaround.
